30 is a thicker oil (viscosity), 20 is a fairly hew "multigrade" to increase fuel mileage.
I gotta eat dinner, but, I'll be back to discuss Later !!!!!
The ONLY reason all these manufactures have gone to 5w20 is to meet CAFE standards for fuel economy. It helps all there cars and trucks get better gas mileage which then allows them to meet the standards that have been set. The reasons behind this is with the large trucks and SUV's getting such bad mileage that if they can increase the cars along with the trucks/suvs they can then meet the standards set by CAFE.
O an i persoanlly will not run 5w20 it is a little to thin for me. I will run Mobil 1 5w30
we live in kansas city missouri. this is my first ford product and had seen 5 20 and thought WTF. then i did some checking and found that it was because of the OHC, and smaller oil gallies. Any brand that comes to mind that is better than another. I wont use castrol but had good luck with mobil 1 and thought about amsoil.
I'm for a 5W30, I like the idea of a little higher viscosity. Definitely a synthetic, for sure.
The best brand on the planet, I've found is LUBRICATION ENGINEERS MONOLEC SPB 8530
