Default Tires help! (I am frustrated)

I have a 2006 torch red mustang GT premium whith the stock 17x8 bullit style rims and I am keeping them because I like the way they look! My question is ... has anyone put larger than stock tires on these rims? I would like something wider because my 4.10 gears will be on very soon and I am almost certain traction will become a problem, not to mention the 235/55/17 stock tires look whimpy. Would it be okay to put something like 255/45/17's or 255/50/17 ? If anyone has installed larger tires on their stock 17" rims please let me see a photo and give me any info you can, thank you!!

275 is as wide as I would recommend to go on a 8" wide rim. You can go 255 or 265 as well.

I have seen pictures ( though not in person ) of a 275/50/17 Nitto on the stock 8" rim and it looked surprisingly good. Same for a BFG drag radial. No drastic sidewall pooch like I expected to see when I looked at the thread. I would like to know where to get a 275/50/17 BFG DR if anyone knows. I asked in the thread with the pictures and didn't get a response.

I agree 275/40/17 is the widest you should go. Im looking for some drag radials too. Any rec's on what kind to go with?
