Oh man! Glad you're okay and sorry for your damaged stang. Hopefully they'll total the car cause even if they can fix it, it will never be the same, especially if the frame was bent bad. I hope they just give you a new stang from the dealer and you'll be back in a stang quickly. Good luck!

Glad you didn't get hurt.

I'm curious though, why did you punch it in 2nd gear when you were swerving?

That's just raw if they don't replace the car. "Fixing it" never comes out right. I had a 93 Ford Ranger that was impacted on the drivers side, smashing quarter panel to the bed. It got fixed but was never the same. They will want to fix the car if it is 18,000$ however. She's worth 26K... They would lose 6K in buying you a new one.

Please keep posting Blackhorse. As sad as it is, it is great info to share.

They will "total" the car if the repair cost exceeds 80% of "book" value (I think that is FMV not wholesale), so you are not getting totalled if your book is 26K and the damage is only 18K. Sorry. The math doesn't work unless one of those numbers changes.

Fix it and trade it if it's history bothers you.

And....free legal advice; you might not want to publicly admit the "not paying attention" part. Though in this case it doesn't matter since there were no other cars involved (so you will be presumed to be 100% at fault anyway), ya never want to make damming admissions with possible legal consequences. Hopefully your passenger won't suddenly develop headaches or post-traumatic stress syndrome......

I've had the airbag go off in a Honda S2000 (the predecessor to the Mustang). I didn't even notice it going off. Once everything settled I'm thinking "Oh rats! The airbag went off".

I couldn't get the airbag smell out of my nose for a couple of days. There were some sort of scrape marks on the inside of my left arm that must have come from the airbag, but I didn't notice those until later.

Usually, any accident that sets the airbag off also totals the car.

Good luck, BlackHorse05, getting things sorted out.

Prepare yourself for the cancellation notice. They only insure good drivers (0 tickets and 0 accidents).
