Don't panic, It might not be as bad as you think. Try rubbing as much of it out as you can and then use some touch up paint and then rub some more followed by some wax and buffing. It won't be perfect but it could be barely noticeable and a lot cheaper then the $450-900 estimates being quoted.

I had the same thing happen to me except it ws with one of those yellow metal poles. It was shorter then the side of the car and I could not see it in the blind spot on the right hand side of the car. There was a huge scratch along the left fender with tons of yellow paint transfered onto my car. I was in tears. I went home and removed the yellow paint with paint thinner then rubbed the sides with clearcoat rubbing compound and finished it up with some wax. I lucked out. You can't see it at all now.

Exactly! No way a new bumper for a scratch; if you put a good crack or split in it, sure but not what you did. If it didn't go through to the base color it should be repairable w/o paint or clearcoat. If you have solid color (not metallic) then no problem with color blend and reclear on that small area. If you need repaint work it sounds like a $150 job and you'll never see the repair. ...and that's the worst case scenario. Metallic will just probably cost more; make sure shop is top notch either way.

fairlane~ I just was quoted 125-150. I feel lots better. Not that I can't afford more but I was thinking of getting the Mac catbacks with that money. I think I over reacted. Easy to do with the first scratch. No cracks or breaks. Just a good old scrape of paint. I'll keep up to date on what happens next week.

Cool; yeah that's only two tanks of gas now... UGH!!! ....Well if you haven't done your mirrors yet now is the time. If you can sand (I can tell you about removing them and sanding steps) shop will have your color and clear going down anyway and you should get a good price on the mirrors (but you have to sand; shops hate that and will charge you dearly; but while it's about 2.5 hrs per mirror it doesn't require any special skill; patience that's about it) ...major improvement in the look of your ride!!! Anyhow, glad price was where it belongs on the repair; you'd pay that just to get a new bumper shipped to ya. Best of luck with the repair!! ...Jim

Oh, if you're going to have a shop take care of this anyway, you could take some 2000# or 2500# grit paper (WalMart has it) and wet sand where the scratch is; this will reveal exactly what damage there is. ..meaning to what degree the scratch went through to the base color below. ...cause if it didn't, a detail shop could fix it for
$20-$25.
