The system plays MP3s, it will not play DVDs. The head unit in the Mustang is just about the worst feature of this car. In addition to being unrelaible, it just sounds like garbage. Get your Mustang and rip out the factory system "skipper" system.
It does include an AUX out, so just run a PIE output switch and hook up your iPod. It will still sound awful, but at least it does not skip every 10 minutes.

My 500 has not skipped either, but I have noticed that if a song continues into the next track that there is a 1-2 second pause before it continues to play. What's up with that?

On your own Media or on Bought CD:s?
Cause if you Burn them, you have to use "Disc-at-once" otherwise they will pause when loading the next track.
