Default Filling the gas tank on my 2005

Is this normal for the 2005 GT.I'm an ASE tech of 25 yrs and work in a Dodge Dealer for 17.The Charger,Magnum,300C's run the same style gas tank.It takes for ever to fill this thing up.The pump keeps shutting off due to the fact I think the tank can't vent the air fast enough. Then when ya get to the top in runs down the side of the car.Anyone else had this problem???

This car is real picky somtimes when filling her up. Its not the best design for refueling. A common cure that people are doing is just find a gas station that works well and doesn't give you problems and stick with that one.

This is an old problem that might be fixed if they made yours before the cutoff date. Check TSB's at the top of the page. Yes, it's a venting problem.
My GT almost never fills up normally at the Mobil station that has the newer style pumps. I put it in, set the lock and it shuts off after about 8 seconds! So I have to hold the handle at about the 3 o'clock position. I can then set the lock and it has never kept pumping to the point of overflowing. At stations with the older style of handle, without that big plastic sleeve, it works normal. I know I should ask them to repair this but I'm hesitant to have them tear up my car when it doesn't have to be torn up... Maybe when I ask them to fix all the noises coming from the rear suspension and rear seat...

I have the opposite problem. By the time the pump shuts off, the gas is overflowing. I have a 2006 GT.

I have the problem with my 05. I've tried different stations, different angles. Sometimes I can get a half tank in her before I got too frusterated. Mentioned to the dealer, haven't heard anything.

Well i have an 06 and filled it up for the first time yesterday and this is a problem for certain. The pump kicked off after only about 6 gallons had gone in. Since i had already heard about this issue i knew to be careful so I removed the nozzle and it released a lot of pressure. Then i pushed the pump in a little further and did it slow but it kept kicking off. So i check the gas gauge and I am only at 3.4 of a tank so i removed the nozzle again and waited a second then tried again and it filled it completely. I also agree with the assessment that the tank cannot vent fast enough and it cause a back pressure issue. Not to mention that the Tube that goes from the neck to the tank is only about 1/2" ID at best. Take a look at it and see how it is routed also . Stupid *** design and they really could have done something better with it.
