It's metal and can be welded. The spoiler holes are big and require a piece of metal to plug for the welding process. There are shops that can do it. (I ordered spolier delete, but I did my deckilid ornament holes (3); antenna holes (4) and GT fender emblem holes (4).) It is tricky because of the thin metal and the potential for warpage. ...but if I can do it w/o warping/shrinking the sheetmetal then surely a person who does this for a living can. I will say this, it takes time so as to not generate that much heat, so the 10 minute thing isn't realistic. Don't try this yourself if you don't have lots of hours of welding experience. Deckid needs to be off for all welding.

+1 on get a firm price-quote on this.

I talked to two different shops and got quotes from $500 -$850 to fill and re-paint the decklid. Crazy if you ask me, but hey, what do I know. I'm just a poor boy trying to get his ducktail on. [&o]

BTW, both of the shops I talked to were concerned that they might have to feather in the quarter panels to get the metalic paint to match perfectly with the rest of the car...not sure if that's common sense or common "body-shop" practice for jacking the price up.

Best,
-j

Well I think that I have come to a conclusion on my situation and since the quote is going to be $300 plus I am just going to plug the holes and paint them. Thanks to this thread that was given out in the ducktail sticky thread I have decided to take that route. Here is the link to the thread: Spoiler Plug Thread which will tell you what you need etc. As I said before I am going to paint them and just put the ducktail on then have my stripes done (decided on the vinyl ones).

They made need to do the top face of the surrounding area around the decklid as metallics are difficult to match on the same light surface plane; this is fine as long as they are confident that they will not need to reclear down the sides of the qtrs or up the rear roof pillars. If they need to do that you're getting into a pretty big job. How about finding a V6 no spoiler to trade with; even a dealer. Give them a $100 to do the swap. (lock and rear emblem swap out too) ...or a V6 owner who would like a free spoiler and $100. No aftermarket spoiler that you like that covers the holes. You can ask ThisBlood147 for a list of every one that covers the holes; he's the resident expert on this option.

Have you considered the new 3D carbon ducktail that covers up/uses the holes? Or perhaps waiting for the GT500 OEM spoilers to ship out? That's is always an option.

The GT500 spoiler really isn't a ducktail and the 3D carbon to me looks like crap. It doesn't appeal to me as a ducktail with the lines between the trunk in the spoiler instead of actually cover the rear view of the trunk. Just my opinion but not appealing to me or worth the money at all. Does the California Dream Ducktail cover the holes?

I'm pretty sure nothing is going to change my mind now at this point because i'm just fed up with the fact I can't get my holes welded... Maybe the plugs won't be too bad.

Yeah, it's a tough one. I couldn't go with the painted plugs but I'm just like that; can't change me now (lol). As long as you are happy... that's the only damn thing that really matters. Enjoy your car!!!!

ORIGINAL: nothsa

If the color of my car was different, I would've kept the stock spoiler and painted it black.
I just painted my wing and lower bumper trimline/rockers sunday...
