9,000 - Shelby GT500 Mustangs to be built
From Stangs Unleashed:

Ford Motor Company today told dealers today that they will produce 9,000 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustangs. The production number is higher than the 7,500-8,500 range, which was anticipated. TheGT500Source.com spoke with Ford this morning and was told that the GT500 would launch on-time. JOB1 is scheduled to begin on 05 June 2006. The cars should begin shipment to dealers in the last week of June.
Dealers are scheduled to receive their allocation numbers by the end of May and there will not be any restrictions as to how many coupe vs. convertible models will be made
End Quote
On a personal note, I recently purchased a Mustang GT Premium with a manual (for dealer invoice price) at a high volume dealer in the Philadelphia, PA area. The sales person told me that they would be selling the GT500 at approximately $80,000 or double the MSRP. The had also sold several of the Ford GT's at over $200,000 (they had one on the showroom floor and had just refused a $180,000 offer for the $149,000 car). Note: the salesman not very knowledgable, so he could have just been full of it.
Ford is obviously catering to the collector market rather than the enthusiast with their speciality, limited run cars.

msrp doesnt affect supply and demand. look at a gt. how much write off do they give you on those? not much. why? cause they dont have to. but 80 seems a bit high.... then again, with a production run of 9k, not undoable

I have also been in contact with several area Ford SVT Dealerships who told me that the price will be "in the neighborhood of $75,000+"...
This means that if two guys want one and one has $85,000, he will get it...
All others who want to buy one at $75,000 will be SOL!!! WOW!!!

In terms of buying it ... most prices that are given to people won't matter. In the end a lot of dealerships are auctioning their allotment off. People can offer all the money they want ... but the people who will get the cars will be the ones who bring the most money to the table (the source of this info is from a major dealership corporation across the US). You may get lucky with the smaller dealerships that may get one, and will just sell it at a certain price ... or on ebay i've heard they are selling some at a buy it now price. In the end, i would just wait around ... ford will cater to people who want power, but don't want to pay the high dollar ... other versions (say bosses) may pop up here sooner or later

for a minute I was sure you went to a dealer here in AL where
I bought my GT ........he told me the VERY SAME THING, that
I could 'have' a GT500 for 'only' $ 80K !!
So, I guess it must be a common Ford "strategy" right now !

If I had that money, I would not only have a GT already, but I would buy a 'vette before the Shelby. If I had that money, I would go with the Saleen vs the Shelby... Either way, IF I had that money, I would route it someplace else (dub'd 300c)LOL. No offense to anyone, just my opinion.
However, there is one exception, if the first Shelbys were born on 6-6-6, I would pay the price just for the "history" of that evil pony.
It would be an evil ride, and a hell of collectable.
