I mentioned that before in another thread about the GT500,
but MY dealer called me a few weeks ago telling me I could
"have one" ...........his price is "ONLY" $ 80.000,-

I basically told him go #@!# yourself (in a 'nicer' way )

One local dealer quoted me 80 grand on a gt-500. Another one was 15 thousand above list.

Insane money to pay for a mustang. I odnt care what you call it, it is still a mustang. And the nice thing about mustangs, while they may not be perfect, they are affordable.

For 80 grand there a lot of nice cars out there. I think I would just go the ZO6 route myself for 65K dollars or so and save 15K.

And I bet that the ZO6 can still soundly eat the gt-500 on a track.

It is ALL about the law of "supply and demand" if people will pay it.. and rich people will pay it... then you sock it to them.. think about the beer or coke you buy at a baseball or football game... come on.. talk about paying to much.... plus just to park your car..!!!! should be against the law right..??? get the point..!!!!!

there is one other reason for this.. when I was working at a Acura dealership back in 1990 when the Acura NSX first came out.. (the very first ones where ALL hand made.. top to bottom ) and they where..and still are.. bad to the bone.. trust me.. I am not kidding.. like riding in a race car.. you get out and every other car you thought was a nice ride.. just seems like junk.. but they cost about 70 to 80K.. yes I would buy a GT500 over a NSX .. because not many GT500's out there .. and you can get a NSX no problem now...!!!

anyway .. there was a guy that put down money to get the first one in the city.. to make a long story short.. he was going to buy it and turn around and re-sell it for a profit of over 40K.. yes that is $40,000.00 profit...!!!.. (he should have kept his big mouth shut.. he even put it in the paper.. what a dumb ash ) so what did the dealership due to him..?? you guessed it.. they told him if he wanted the car he would have to pay " market value" ... yes that right .. the dealership put the burn on him.. bottom line they sold that car the next week for over 100K ... as the one guy backed down.. he would have had to pay 100K and he would have lost that 40K profit.. but again .. it was his own fault.. yes lawyers where there and everything.. but the dealership has to MANY of them...

that is why the GT500's are selling over sticker.. if people will pay it.. and they will.. then you are going to have to pay over sticker... because if you don't.. the next guy will...!!!!!!!!!!!

Think about when they come out with the 07 Shelby .. do you really think you will get that at sticker..??? not in this lifetime.. same thing when they start selling the Challenger (Cuda look a like)

to many people love that car.. (I do.. I will be the first to admit it.. ) but I am not going to buy a car over sticker.. NO WAY in hell... I will wait a few years if I have too... if I want one that bad..

I have lived 43 years without one.. unless I am going to die in the next year or two.. then I can wait a few more years..

just my 2 cents worth on the topic...

I think anything over $5000, above msrp is a huge mistake and even that much could a large loss over 2 years. My.02.[:-]

I don't know about you, but I am pretty damn happy that I live in a country where dealers can charge whatever the market will bear for non-necessities, and a country where I am free to either pony up (excuse pun) or walk away.

It's an exuberant toy, not drinking water. Drinking water should arguably be available to (almost) everyone as a matter of right. Dealers should be able to charge what they want for the exhuberant toys that they want to sell. That gives them incentive to stay in business. Sorry, but a GT500 at MSRP is not an entitlement. Aw shucks......we can only afford a measly $30K GT? Life is so unfair.....

Everyone is getting really worked up on this forum and others about the insane markups, but people, not one single Shelby has hit a dealership yet!!! Personally I think the dealerships are dreaming, when it comes down to it I doubt there are going to be many takers at 20k over MSRP. Sure there may be people getting on lists, but when the dealership calls and tell them their car is ready the excuses are going to pile up. What dealerships THINK they will get and what they will REALLY get are probably pretty far apart. The prices are going to tumble off of those +20k levels quickly, probably within a week or 2 of the cars hitting showrooms. I imagine it will settle down to 5k +/- over sticker for a while, then after a few months it'll be down to sticker, then eventually below sticker. Same as what happened when the '05 Mustang GT came out.
