Default Is your rear axle centered? I bet its not!

Im gettin' ready to do the Roush spring/ panhard bar replacement so I checked to see if my axle was centered before I did the job. I was surprised to see that mine was a 1/4 of an inch off! It measured 1 and 5/16 from the wheel rim to wheel opening on the drivers side, and 1 and 9/16 on the passenger side! The car is as it came from the factory as far as suspension and wheels are concerned. Im wondering now if I should adjust the panhard bar to keep these measurements, or should I center the axle. Any ideas, suspension gurus? [] Also, I would like to see how many of your rears are really centered. Break out the tape measures guys!

Careful now. "Centered" w/r/t the quarter panels may have nothing to do with "centered" w/r/t the drivetrain or the suspension.

Maybe this is why my car kicks somewhat to the left once it hooks up

I've kinda wondered about this. Can some folks who have not lowered yet measure and report their findings. I suppose I could stop by a big dealership and measure up a few; but let's see what some who have also not lowered yet find. I assume you used a plumb bob to get these measurements; this is the most accurate way (a vertical straight edge that's been plumbed with a level is barely ok and not as accurate) If a plumb bob was not used then the measurement is really meaningless.

I just went out and mesured using a plumb bob from the edge of the rear fender through the center line if the wheel. I had 1 inch on the drivers side and 1 3/8 inch on the passanger side to the edge of the rim.
My suspenshion is stock and I had a little over 3/4 tank of gas if it matters. The Roush rear springs I have listed in signature haven't been installed..

After putting eibach springs in the REAR ONLY ,1 .5 drop.......my rear end is perfectly centered 1.25 on each side.I've been reading on here about "panhard" bars etc. ,I really don't think you need a different bar unless you are dropping more than 1.5 inches. Those springs did help the ride and overall feel of the car .With just putting the rears in , the car sets perfectly level. The attitude of the car changes too.Don't ask me how ,it just does.Legend GT

Yup I know about the attitude; nice stance! Say did you use a plumb bob to measure?
