i know on a lot of the older stangs people would paint the dash instead of buying trim kits... and i was wondering if anybody painted these?

Dunno about the paint though a good paint meant for plastic should work fine. As for getting the pieces off: it's pretty easy.

Lift the lid on the console and remove the two phillips screws underneath. Then pull the parking brake all the way up, and gently pry up the shifter boot trim from the black console trim.

Now lift the upper console trim from the rest of the console and jimmy it off from around the shifter. You can manipulate the shifter boot trim so that it goes through the opening as you pull the big trim piece off.

All this to finally reveal the previously hidden sections of the pieces you want to paint. But now they just pull rearward gently to remove. They are only held on with two clips and the previously removed console upper trim piece.

Good Luck!

A guy with a nice yellow stang, mustangspeeder, painted these pieces in his yellow stang and posted some pics over at www.2005stang.com. If I had more time this evening, I would go dig up the thread but you should be able to find it easily enough. I would have considered this mod myself but I've decided my Tungsen Grey pony is a natural for a carbon fiber dash kit.
