Try a X-pipe or prochamber. They both sound quieter at idle. The X-pipe will only sound louder at WOT not to mention raspier. The prochamber will sound deeper at idle and a little quieter. These also tend to be cheaper than some axlebacks

I had the Bassani x-pipe installed with the Bassani axle-backs, and truthfully I didn't like the sound at all, it was very raspy, metallic sound. I ended up having the x-pipe taken off, went back to stock h-pipe, but kept the bassani axle-backs. I am much happier with the sound, (understatement) I love the sound, it is a louder deeper tone. I have set off a Lincoln Navigators alarm that was parked next to me at work yesterday.

leave the stock mufflers on and instal an X-pipe. Stock mufflers flow pretty good. When you replace the axle back you gain only 4 to 6 HP.

I would nix the x-pipe idea. If you want sleeper, stay stock. There is nothing but minor gains to be had in modifying the mustang GT exhaust short of replacing everything from the engine back with long tubes and no cats. And even that isnt really worth it compared to other bolt ons.

I hear corsa is a decent sounding muffler. But no axel back will give you significant increases.

Yea, I don't think you'll be seeing anything quieter than the stock mufflers anytime soon.....if at all. And as everyone has already said, you're not losing anything (money or hp-wise) by sticking with the stock mufflers. I probably won't be upgrading exhaust for quite a while.....I like being a sleeper too much

I have the Steeda axle backs. Apparantly they are made by Borla. The sound great, not too loud, but definitlely not stock.

Alright, so once she's blown the stock mufflers wont hold back the exhaust flow?

i find that hard to beleive though, if it only costs me 4 or 5hp i can deal, but if we are talking about 20 or more then bye bye stock.

Something else you should know is i am putting new headers and x-pipe on, still think the stock axle backs wont hurt flow???

Depending on how much you want to spend, the Corsa setup is realy quiet, until you lay into it. Idle is smooth and just a tad louder than stock and under normal power, they sound just right, not real loud. Also, very good workmanship as well. Oh, and no drone, zero, zilch, nada.

i hadnt thought about it till right now but if im not mistaken the stock pipes are 2.5" right?

My new pipes are going to be 3" all the way from the collector to the mufflers. so does the Corsa come in a 3" ?

I was getting shorty headers and an x-pipe.

Let me know what you guys think. Im going to a meet tonight to check the exhaust on other local mustangs and see how i like em.

Thanks for the replies!
