Default Center console clicking sound during idle

This has come on and off in its degree of noise, but today it was just awful.

At a full stop and under brakes and auto in drive, there is constant clicking sound coming from the center part of the car. If I apply neutral or a little gas (as I pull away) the sound disappears.

What the hell is this? I'm pissed cos I just got rid of the 1500rpm rattle/drone and now this **** gets louder than ever now [:@]

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks

What kind of clicking? Like a regular mechanical type clicking or more an irregular rattle?

I noticed on mine (an automatic '06 GT) that the emergency brake was rattling a little at idle. I played with it a bit, didn't tighten it at all, and the rattle went away. Not really sure what it was, but the rattle is gone now. Hope that helps.

HMMM.....it vould be something serious? Or on the other hand it could be something stupid. I would just have your local ford expert give a look at it, thats usually the best.

If you say that the noise is coming from the center of the car, I would say that it is something to do with the driveshaft or transmission. I've known some people to tie a zip-tie around the driveshaft to drive some people crazy but I doubt that's whats wrong with your car. The A/C makes a clicking sound as it cycles, but the noise would come from the front of the car. I would put my money on the driveshaft. Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out. Let us know what it was when you find out.

I believe there is a tsb for this, Mine just started doing this. I notice it at 70mph. its like coming from around the radio area. Theres also a similar high pitch click behind my left ear side. Also my passanger seat rattles at high speeds (freeway). I just did the dash thing too!
