Shelby GT500--what a disapointment

RE: Shelby GT500--what a disapointment
I'm having a hard time believing that the best the GT500 can get in the 1/4 is 12.9secs. I know it weights more than our cars, but it also has an extra 200HP, suspension should be better, although I don't know all the details on it. I'll way until people start taking deliveries on them and start taking them to the track to decide if I'm dissapointed by its performance or not. I mean, how many runs did they do to come up with a 12.9 or 13.1 in another mag? Last time I was at the track my first run was 13.7, I got a 13.23 after that!

RE: Shelby GT500--what a disapointment
I bet that, when I get my Whipple, I'll be showing those fatass 500s what they should have spent their money on.
Seriously... The GT500 has been a dissapointment from the start, for me. They're ugly, feature an unnecessarily large engine (creating the ugly problems since, with the fog lamps, the mules over-heated) when the 4.6 would work just fine, do not feature the interior options that make the GTs nice (Alum. dashes, etc.), have horrid gearing, and weigh almost two TONS.
All this for 25K+ over the GT? No thank you. GT+Mods, please.

RE: Shelby GT500--what a disapointment
I do agree that it's not a cost effective bang-for-the-buck car, which the Mustang GT's are. It is, as stated earlier, an investment car, a low production high perf semi-custom car. If you can afford it, go for it. Most of us obviously will be happy mod'ing our run of the mill GT's.
As for the gearing, I diodn't realize that. That makes me think that the 500's will really wake up with some 4.10's and kick some serious ***, including Vettes of any kind. I'm looking forward to seeing it, IF the rich boys that end up in them don't just make them garage decorations.....

RE: Shelby GT500--what a disapointment
WHAT ARTICLE IS THIS REFERING TO ????
is it new as of may or june 06?
IF NOT then you are probably refearing to -VOL. 51 NO.1 July 2005 Car and Driver-
Those numbers in there article of the prototype GT500 WERE ARE SPECULATION. sure they drove the PROTOYPE gt500 but they didnt do ANY REAL track testing. only speculation
SO untill we see the Production GT500 hitting the 1320 or if i can see the article that shows the production gt500, then there should be no more bad mouthing the Gt500
