Drbobsvs,

Thanks for that bit on the built-in amp. Never thought about the amp burning out. Does that happen often? It would definitely suck if the amp blew out and had to replace the whole damn sub. Thanks for the pics everyone!
I would go passive as well, but not for the reason mentioned above. If the amp DOES blow or go bad, which is NOT a common problem with MTX, you are NOT sol as stated. Simply replace the amp portion, or wire your own external amp to the speaker, as the speaker and enclosure would still be fine. The mtx amp is mounted with only 4 screws in the enclosure.

My reason for going passive as I found out when I installed my powered MTX, the amp is in the back and NOT accessible for fine tuning once you mount the thing to the trunk [:@]

Well, I just got off the phone with Crutchfield dripping in sweat. I ordered the Scosche sub after they assured me it would fit the convertible, i even went out of my way to ask as i heard it wouldn't somewhere.

So after working up a sweat trying to jam that dam thing in there I gave up just before taking out the circular saw. I swear it was like a scene from a movie.

Crutchfield apologized and said they would add that LITTLE piece of info to their computer. They are going to pay for return shipping and send me the MTX enclosure for $100 off too. In their defense I checked the instructions that came with the sub and it clearly states "...fits all '05 '06 models including GT, V6, premium...." etc.

I'm going to try and call scosche this week and give them an earfull.

Just thought you guys should know this and also that Crutchfield, as always, handled it satisfactorily.

Besides the cosmetic differences between the MTX and Scoche, anyone looked into performance differences between the two?

I have the Scosche. Sounds 10 times better than the Skipper1000 subs did. Plus takes up less room. No, did not buy a bundled amp with it.

My only gripe is that Ford was too damn cheap to put trunk carpet under the Skipper1000 sub. So now I have a bare spot where the old sub box was.

That is exactly what I intend on doing, I just haven't thought it was important enough ( or worth it ) to spend $150 on yet.
