What was your # 2 choice??
Haven't seen this kind of a thread before....sorry if redundant.
I figure since this is the '05+ forum, most of us have been car shopping recently enough to remember what other cars were on your "maybe" list before buying. Maybe you got *really* close to buying different car like I did. What were the major turn-offs for the other one? Was it a tough decision? I know there are a few family men on this message board....do I hear any minivans???
I'll go first: I was really liking the new Chevy Cobalt for a while -- this was about a year ago -- it was a first year model, I believe, and I thought all the styling was pretty cool. Unfortunately, for Chevy, the Mustang's look totally blew it away. And more importantly, the equally priced 2 L engine (even with the stock supercharger) couldn't hang with the Mustang's 4.0. Now every time I see one of them I am so glad I made the right decision. But holy crap it was so close. It's crazy how obvious decisions can seem in retrospect.
So what about everyone else? Any regrettable close calls?
No saying "I was going to get the Mustang no matter what." We all know you made the right decision, but that's a no fun answer.

RE: What was your # 2 choice??
I was looking for a 300hp Convertible...
My options were:
05 Mustang GT Convertible
05 Audi A4S Convertible
05 BMW M3...
They Mustang was 1/2 the price of either of the other two... slightly larger... easier to work on.... WAY less expensive to modify...
My choice was simple!

I almost got a 350Z. I even made an offer on one but the dealer wouldn't budge. I can't really say if I made the "right decision" or not because I haven't lived with a 350Z, but I definitely love the mustang.

I contemplated a Scion tC or a Mazda 3 or Mazda 6. Also a few used Mustangs were also considered along with a 91 300 ZX; passed on the used cars, because my Dad explained to me that used cars in California are usually extremely high milage. Money was/is an issue. I knew I couldn't afford a GT.
The 4.0 is pretty cool.

I got my 1st choice - a new 2005 V6 ragtop in Mineral Grey with the options I wanted at a dealer 1.5 miles from my house.
My 2nd pick? A new 2005 GT coupe in Mineral Grey at another local dealer. Sorry, but I wasn't willing to pay the $3K ADM the dealer wanted over MSRP.
Any regrets? Not one!

RE: What was your # 2 choice??
I was going for a S200, but high prices and high insurances scared me off. Then I went to a dealer and looked at a 2001 V6 stang, and they said they would sell it to us for $9,800. We turned it down, and a week later I told them I would buy it for $9,800 but the idiot salesman told me that they couldn't give me that deal again. It turned out to be the best mistake of my life because I ended up with a brand new stang because the idiotic salesman turned me down.
