What should I pay?

What should I pay?
I'm planning on buying a Mustang V6 - anyone have any idea what sort of discount I will realistically be able to get?
The precise vehicle I'm looking at (the dealer has a few of the same spec) is:
2006
V6
+ Pony Pack
+ Interior Upgrade Pack
+ Front seat side airbags
+ Leather trimmed seats
+ Locking wheel nuts
The MRSP is $23,590. It has a $1000 standard discount making the dealer price $22,590.
How much do you think I could save, or what could I try to get thrown in for free. It'll be my first time buying a car in the US and I don't know what sort of margin dealers work with.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Since you want an '06, which is no longer being produced, your selection is going to get smaller the longer you wait.
To get the best deal shopping during the last week of the month can help if the dealer is looking to push more cars out the door to make his sales figures for that month.
I would start looking now and be ready to do the deal near the end of this month.
I bought my '05 'vert March 24 (3 months ago).
They were offering $3000 rebates on leftover '05 models. My car had a sticker of $30400, and the dealer had added a rally stripe ($995 ??) and remote start / alarm ($595), and some aftermarket tires / rims $3000. so the total asking price was $34990.
I said I liked the car, but the tires and rims had to go, so they agreed to put on the regular Ford premium rims which got it down to $31990.
$31990 minus the $3000 rebate got it down to $28990 with no haggling, but my salesman said they were instructed to get all the '05 cars off the lot.
He first offerred me $28000, I countered with $23500, he took it to the saled manager who came back with $27000.
my next offer was $24000, and the saleman came back with $24957, which he claimed was a one time only price, it was what the dealer owed on the car, take it or leave it. I said I needed to think about it and was getting ready to leave when he asked me how my credit was, which was good. He then offered me 0% 3 year finiancing..... that sold me.
I walked in just looking for a test drive, and walked out with a brand new car not to paying a dime out of my pocket, and no finance charges.
So my advice is to start looking now, and near the end of this month be ready to drive a hard bargain.... good luck

Well you did one heck of a deal, so congratulations on that!
I just assumed it WOULD be a 2006 vehicle since we're in the middle of 2006. Does that mean that if the exact vehicle isn't available I'd have to wait until 2007 or settle for getting a slightly different spec?
The dealer I've been browsing the inventory for has 65 new Mustangs, all 2006 and seems to be getting more and more all the time.
Thanks for your help.

RE: What should I pay?
If you order one today it will be an '07 model, the major changes for this year are 2 new color choices, heated seats, a cloth top option for the convertible, a California special edition , etc.
But if you order one you don't have as much leverage when bargaining your price.
The '07 models just started to be built a few weeks ago, and are either just starting to hit the dealers or should be very soon.
