Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Anyone bought one of these for their car? You can buy one straight from ford but it has a hefty $430 price tag. Looking at this product right now:

If anyone has one let me know what you think of the quality. Also, I'll probably get it installed by the ford dealer so let me know if it looks cheap or if it will look like it came with the car. If anyone has any better products in mind I'd appreciate any info.

RE: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Hey guys..I've been a reader here for a while, and now finally have an answer for someone..
I just got done installing one of these this evening. I went for the Homelink/compass/auto dimming model, puchased used off of eBay. It works great, I really missed having a compass (my last car had one). The auto-dimming function seems to be helpful as well, much better than the all or nothing flip mirror I replaced.
I look forward to participating and getting to know everyone here!

I also got the one with homelink, compass, and temperature gauge installed by the dealer.
The only problem I found is that if the car is in the sun for a while, the mirror will show a hot temperature, like 90+ degrees when it is 70 outside. Don't know why that is, I thought the temperature gauge is supposed to be installed under the bumper or someplace out of the sun.

tomwynne, did you purchase the mirror from the dealer or get elsewhere and just install at the dealer? the pic looks like it was a quality install either way.
oh, and how much did the dealer charge for the install??

I got it installed by the dealer. $425 for the mirror and $300 for parts and labor. Probably could have done it myself but it is the first thing I had them do when I got the car. Dealers are probably the most expensive places to have work done.

ouch... $300 is more than the actual mirror i'm looking at.
i'm not very handy with making mods myself so i guess i'll call for an estimate before i buy the mirror.

The ford accesories one is a Gentex mirror, save the money and buy the Gentex model you want off the internet. Got the homelink, temp, compass one myself for under $300....looks and works great. I am having trouble finding a good spot for the thermometr though...moved it many times.
