Default CALIFORNIA DUSTER / 06 S197

I bought a CA Duster last night, to use on my s197 GT, has anyone used these ? How well do they work ?

I'd post this in detailing, but, that area isn't very active, and the posters overthere are painting their dashes green, and stuff like that.

Anyway, it sez to cure it for 48 hrs laying on a newspaper. I got the car and the dash duster for $21.99, supposedly on sale, at Sears. Total impulse buy, so, I have no idea what they usually cost.

I'd appreciate any input from ppl who have used these on their s197 / Mustangs.

Thanks.

So, it's necessary to "cure" this thing ?
BTW those mirrors are awesome on your S197.

Yes, they have excess oil in them when you purchase it. The paper will help draw some of that out. I always cure mine for at least 48hrs normally it's 72hrs. They get better as they get dirtier.

Yep you must let it sit on newspaper like shortbus said. I actually let mine sit for a few days when i get new ones. And i change the paper every day. Now remember these are only used for light dusting. If you use it daily you will be fine but if you let the car get a couple days worth of dust and then overnight dew on it . Then DO NOT use it the car will need to be washed at that point. I dust the car daily and then give it a good once over with Poorboys S&W and a MF towels keeps the car looking great.

I have 3 of them.... An old one.. and a new one and a dash one.

I use the old one daily, every morning and afternoon when I drive my car to work.

I use the new one when detailing during car shows.

I use the dash one killing time at long stop lights every other day.

They work wonderfully

Thanks for all the info, I just changed the newspaper like you said, and DANG, I could see little splotches of parrafin soaked into the paper. Can't wait to start using it, but, I'll wait until Fri. No use in "rushing' the process.
The biggest problem has been the dust that collects virtually overnight. Sometimes, it sits in the garage, 2-3 days, and sometimes it's driven 3 days in a row. But, the dust has been a pain in the ****, and detail spraying and wiping, just seemed to move the dust around.
PW, I gotta question. They say "the older, the dirtier, the better it is". Why are you using the new one so sparingly ?
So far, my favorite part is the fact that the heads match the car, sorta like a "custom color matching duster"
Yeah, I got it pretty bad !!!
TY for all the answers.

Ford dealers should hand you your keys and a California Duster.... essential for every Mustang.

LeJay,
What everyone else said is true. And, knowing that you are an advocate of Turtle Wax Ice, you will be amazed at how easy a days worth of dust comes off the car. My wife and I both work very near a concrete processing plant. It's a nightmare when they are grinding asphalt for re-use. The car duster is essential for us, or more specifically, for the paint jobs.....

One caution, if you get any overnight moisture of dew in the air, don't use the duster in the morning.....it will smear, especially windows......

Best of Luck,
Mike
