Default Gears 3.90

Why does everyone talk about 3.73 or 4.10 and not the 3.90? Why do people not use the 3.90? Seems like a mixed bag on the other 2 and these are right in the middle and you would think they would make more people happy.

People don't talk much about the 3.90s because Ford does not make a 3.90 gearset for the 8.8" rear end. Motive makes 3.90s for the 8.8 but they are noisey as hell. You can get them micronite coated for an additional $200 and it helps, but they are still not as quiet as Ford gears.

Also, dont forget you have to recalibrate your speedometer after the gear change. If you have a CAI by Diablosport or SCT for example, you have a choice of 3:55, 3:73, or 4:10. Your fornicated if you have 3:90s. Im sure there is a way to do it, but I dont know of one offhand. [:-]

the only reason gears should whine is if they are installed incorrectly, if they are installed correctly they will NOT whine no matter who makes them

It's not that I don't agree, but... There have been way too many people have Motive gears installed and complained about the noise, gone back to the same place and had them swapped for FRPPs and the noise went away.

In my S2K I had Richmond Racing gears. They were noisey and became a annoying. Many people on the S2K boards said the Richmonds were noisey due to the straight teeth of racing gears... where as factory gears do not typically have straight teeth, not sure if these motives are the same way...
