Useless Poll: My Subwoofer Box
Should I make my box sealed or ported?
Should I make it out of MDF, Fiberglass, or try something new with Carbon Fiber?
I will post a detailed how-to thread of whatever method i decide to use.
/stupid post cuz im bored
edit: its a JL Audio 12w7 running 1300w rms off an ARC Audio KAR1000.2T amp. cost is NOT an issue, as i can get all materials for relatively cheap/free. fiberglass and cf will require about 7-10 times the time commitment of mdf, but i am not worried about that either.

RE: Useless Poll: My Subwoofer Box
i voted mdf ported. but it all depends on what kinda music you listen too and what kinda sound u want. Sealed makes it not as loud as it would b if it was ported. go slot ported if u do cuz it looks better hehe. also sealed is gunna make punchier so you can hear each individual frequency, where as ported will blend the frequencies together to make a smoother sound. Basically sealed for sound quality and ported for loudness. My opinion is ported cuz you sub already sounds good so why not make it loud too. I have 1 10" alpine type x in a slot ported box w/ a hifonics brutus 2005d amp. Ive won a couple contests w/ this set up cuz the sub sounds clear and very punch ported or not. Make absolutly sure running 1300w rms to get 0 guage wiring, or else you wont get anywhere near 1300 cuz the electricity wont b able to flow as well when there are bursts of bass.

btw, i listen to rock exclusively, but its fun to show off to friends with their techno or rap occasionally.
im also kinda tired of mdf boxes, so im considering other options, taking my access to materials into account. all but two of the 30-some-odd boxes ive ever built were mdf...not to mention its heavy in a performance car (30-50 extra lbs dep on size).
i run 0/1awg eclusively too, dont worry...though with the music i usually listen to, its overkill. ive never heard a type x before, though i have a type r and have installed type s. how does the sq and spl compare with idmax v3, w7, xxx, brahma, 9500, eclipse titanium, ed a-series, dd, etc, or whatever high-output woofers you are familiar with?
