I suspect its not the power at all that is causing the speed sensation. Its the suspension and chassis that gives you the sensation. My 70 Mach 1 lets me feel every crack in the road. My dentists loves the fact that I own that car, because it constantly loosens up my 30 year old fillings. When I mash the gas the sensation of being launched is much more prominent then in my 06 GT. But its all because of the ability to drive by the seat of my pants. The ride and chassis aren't as refined as the 06. Thats my opinion anyway.

The 4.6 has to spin some to make power, so yes it needs to "wind up" before the horses sart showing up.

by the way..my 05 is a 5 speed....i hear what you guys are saying about it having to wind up to get to the real hp.....dont get me wrong i LOVE my new car and when the $ is sitting around ill add a sc but i kinda miss the ole 5.0.....i just bought a 90gt totally stock so ilcompare once i get it on the road....im just kinda pissed i sold the 88 cause that thing was a beast....i just wish these new cars would have a little more uummff on the lower end..

I think you felt it more in the older cars, looser cars in general so you got more feel from the car and road. That being said I'd never trade my 06 for any of my previous 80's stangs. My last one was a 86GT with just about any bolton you could figure and a 9# Powerdyne supercharger and pretty nicely done suspension (adjustable Koni's and the like) and I still would take my 06 for driving and performance.

so if i stiffened 'er up a bit, it'd feel faster?
what else can be done to make it feel faster (butt dyno, SOTP dyno)

when i said it felt faster i mean it took off......there was this one time where is was racing this cocky *** kid from my town in his "supped up" civic with a gsr engine or some bullshii&....he was soo sure he'd beat me ......when i launched off the line my rear veiw mirror came off the window....i got him by 1 car length in the 1/4......i guess it just had more low end torque.....i cant wait to get the 05 up to par with that..plus i was running BF comp t/as

4:10's would help with that "feeling".
I had an 85 Capri 5.0 (4bbl) and yeah "take-off" felt "wild". ...I know what you mean.

I have notice the "wind Up" feeling also. but usually by the time im in second it's already ready to go. You have to admit, when you punch it in 2nd or 3rd, people notice and the sensation is absolutely crazy I love it !!!
