im sorry.....i love my 05 gt and all,,,but my 88gt felt a ton quicker and that only cost me 2,200......it was a 5 speed..150,000 miles flows and maybe gears...but that thing pinned me in my seat....my brother and his friends loved that feeling too....my 05 feels sluggish until about 3500-4000 rpm..i dont have a tune or CAI but i would think 300hp would feel fatser than 215hp...anybody else notice this....

Well look at how much of a different crowd the new GT is marketed to. People 35-50 with money who don't want their hemroids bashed to hell. Most people seem to be more concerned about auto-dimming mirrors and trunk-release buttons as opposed to actual performance items that should have been stock from the factory.

how many miles are on your newer stang? You driving stick or auto? Auto's definitely wake up with a tune.

It felt faster, but it wasn't.

The 4.6 has to spin some to make power, so yes it needs to "wind up" before the horses sart showing up.

Yes, I agree to a point... My old 89 stang used to pin you in your seat a bit better because the 302 developed torque at a lower RPM than the new oh cams. But its just a sensation. The new 3v is amazing. Floor it from a roll and I have had the tires spin at 5500 RPM! Its just reaching the peak way after the old 302 ran out of steam. I think the 302 may have been a bit more fun when just stabbing the throttle while running about.

I have had several 302/5.0 mustangs in the past and it is just an illusion... The old 88 cars are lighter but the chasis is not as good as the new ones... My last 302 was a 95 GT (The last year of the 5.0) and it was rated stock at 225/275 way lower than our cars and it died at 5500 RPM... The 2005-2006 cars are much more powerful and with a mods N/A are making 350HP at the crank... Mine just put down 301.5/315 on Steeda's Dyno last week with simple bolt on parts and a tune...

5.0's are torquey as hell off the line. thats pushrod power for ya. our 3v's are more proficient in the top end; and i also have a suspicion that ford put a muzzle on the bottom 2500 rpm of our powerband. i got more power way down low in a 2.4 L honda. it just doesnt respond well at all there. hopefully a tune can get rid of these electronic nannys.

I like the 4.6. It really compliments the new car. More of a sports car type motor yet still has a decent amount of low end.

Above 4K rpm in second gear especially these cars just pull. It is not uncommon to step in the bottom of second with no wheelspin, and have the car be grappling for traction by the time you hit redline.
