Custom Paint Am I Insane?

Custom Paint Am I Insane?
I am about to pull the trigger on a 2007 Mustang GT. I would like to have it professionally painted in a custom color. Am I insane? Are there any special considerations I need to think about? Thanks to all for input, has anyone on this forum done this yet?

RE: Custom Paint Am I Insane?
You would need to pull the motor and strip virtually all components from the engine compartment; door jams, inner trunk a major pain too. It will cost in excess of $15k and your car will reduce in value by about that much in a year. That's a $30k hit so my recommendation is put this out of your head immediately. If someone was going to do this they would do dark green "bullit" metallic; but not likely anyone would do that because in a couple years Ford will likely offer a bullit version and the repaint becomes an undesireable older copy. You're not insane for thinking about it only for doing it.

As a suggestion, if you want a have a custom color, order your 2007 Mustang GT in black. You won't have to repaint the entire engine compartment (shock towers and firewall could stay black). You'd still have to paint the under the hood and the edge of the fenders, but that would save you from having to pull the motor. Door jams and the trunk would also need to be resprayed, of course. Regardless, it's not an inexpensive modication, but one that will yield dramatic results.

I'm sorry guys but I disagree with the loss in value due to a repaint. Maybe it will decrease the value in 30 yrs as a collectors items, but considering the mass production numbers on the s197's, I seriously doubt that they will gain value like the 60's cars have.
I say if you have the cash, and want to do it, go for it. I personally bought my 06 to enjoy, that's why it's already got 8k miles on it, in 4 1/2 months, and about 40 passes at the track. If getting it repainted will help you enjoy it, then do it.
