I am guessing it just makes some sort of awful noise when you shift without using a clutch, but I know I am surely not trying this one myself.

Actually, on many standard vehicles, it is completely possible to shift through all the gears without using the clutch. However, I wouldn't recommend trying it on your shiny new mustang.

I broke a clutch cable on a Capri GT (UK) once. My initial reaction was to stop--mistake!
I got the car moving again with the starter, pushed in the clutch, started the car, then pushed it back into first-secomd-etc.
It worked, but the synchros take a beating. The pro stock guys shift without the clutch, but have planetary gears.

If you're really good at it (which I am not) its possible to go through the gears without the clutch. You just have to shift at the exact right time when the rpms are just right and all that crap. My buddy does it in his Mustang. I don't do it, and I don't let him do it in mine. I gotta give him credit though, I've never heard him grind a gear doing it.

Yeah, it actually can make for a smooth shift. I had to drive my Celica 7 miles with no clutch, that was fun.

i can upshift and downshift without the clutch on my mustang, and all my previous manual cars before, i havent grinded in the new stang yet :P .. but i did however grind when learning to shift without the clutch.. but that was a long time ago.. its all about matching revs and doing it properly, dont shift without the clutch if your putting your motor underheavy load ie: pinning it to redline lol
