Default RE: XM Roady XT pics?

Finally Got is all set up today.

Installed...

Pioneer Premiere DEH-P880PRS Head Unit
Pioneer GEX-P920XM Xm Satellite Adapter
Pioneer CD-IB100II Ipod Adapter
Crutchfield/Metra 120705521 Wiring Harness
Crutchfield Ford In=dash Kit 120995807
Radio Shack 276-1770 Delay Circuit

Total install took me quite a while, if only because of a couple of hickups and I repositioned the XM & Ipod adatpers in the dash after I realized I had them seated right next to the Heat vents. Both harnesses I got from Crutchfield worked pretty good. I didn't say anything about cross-wiring the amp turn on leads from one harness to the other, but I figured taht much out. Plus there was a horribly loud POP when I turned the deck, but Crutchfield quickly gave me the Radio shack part number for a delay circuit, which is apparently necessary to get the deck to turn on before the amps (which is what they said cased the pop).

Everything looks and works like a charm now. Now the Radio, CD, MP3, XM, Ipod, etc. are all at my remotes finger tips. I love it. Not sure if these pics are worth posting... but here ya go anyway. I'll try to get some better daytime pics if anyone wants them. The brushed aluminum on the eck doesn't show up very good in the dark.

6605,
Nice Job!! Looks good. Ya, when you get a chance, get some brighter pics. Love to see how the brushed aluminum on the head unit matches the dash.....

Did you stick with stock speakers all around? If so, how's the sound quality with the new head unit??

Thanks for the update,
Mike

Thanks mlcrycc - I'll go snag some daylight pics here in a bit. Need to get a coule of cups of coffee pumping first. The aluminum on the deck is slightly darker thatn the dash, so I'm not sure if it will look so great in pics, but I sure like tha way it looks versus other decks. I really don't like the look of the single DIN one's that look all crazy with the ***** in wierd places and whatnot. Just doesn't seem to fit the dash configuration.

I did stick with the stock speakers and they do sound A LOT better. Only thing is not with the added amperage (word?) it's A LOT louder too and the speakers can't handle full power now. Before they were perfectly matched to where you could crank it all the way up and they were crystal clear. I just need to make sure I don't go full volume now, or it's sound kinda bad (and it sounds like I'm a hair away from thrashing the speakers).

But all and all, I am very happy with the set up. Ths sytem sounds 10X better, it looks a lot better than the stock green illumination deck, and no more ugly looking XM units and Ipods laying around. I love it!

Ok this is for an original Roady and may not work for everyone because they have it covers up certain buttons; I don't have them so for me it works. Since I don't use the upper power outlet I fabricated a mount for it. I started with an old car charger plug and removed all the metal parts (fuse, flanges, ect). Then I trimmed it down so it had flat even spot (on the one I used that was right behind where the cord had gone in). Next I bought a plastic electrical outlet cover without the punch outs (about 75c at Lowe’s). Using a Drimmal I cut this down to just slightly larger than the Roady. Next I glued these two pieces together using plastic glue. Let them set about a day to cure, then check the fit in the power outlet (for the pieces I used needed one wrap of electrical tape). Then you simply match the holes of the Roady base up to the outlet cover and drill matching holes add a few small screws and that is it. I ran the power plug/fm modulator into my center console, once PIE releases the XM-aux adapter I'll be able to eliminate this.
