Not cool, 90 MPH in 2nd gear
So im tearing down this old back road go to shift from 3rd to 4th, hit 2nd and it goes into gear.
Of course I engine brake, transmission whines like a jet, engine prob hit 10k rpm for .5 sec.
Luckily she seems fine, soon as I hit 2nd I hit clutch and got into neutral this all took place within 1 sec but scared the crap outta me.
No idea how the hell the car even managed to get into 2nd gear, it when right into 2nd as if it was nothing. I tried to pop it in 2nd after (with clutch in ofcourse) going down the highway and its locked out like it should be.
Dunno im about to go in for 5k check up in a few weeks, wondering if i should have them look into it, or if it was just a freak incident.

Just start listening for a tapping noise coming from your engine... if you get one... probably means bent valve. If no tapping noise arises in the next few weeks you should be good to go.

take a look here at what a clutch/pressureplate/flywheel can do if overrevved- this one blew at 7800 according to the victim:

Don't feel to bad. It happened to me once. I have learned that these shifters including the aftermarket ones, have to be moved in a straight line when shifting. They don't have that heavey spring that kicks them ove to the 3-4 slot due to the trannys being five speed. Once you master that you are good to go. It is a scary sound though.

RE: Not cool, 90 MPH in 2nd gear
Happened to me last night. A Mercedes 500 SEL vert did not like me getting ahead of him at an interstate on ramp stoplight (two lanes to one), so he zoomed past me at over 100 after he caught up. I let him go, but caught him down the road. We both did a 70MPH punch (me to 3rd gear) and I smoked him again. I thought it was over, but he caught up and was doing another high speed fly-by to "prove" how fast he really was. I was going to at least look respectable, so I went to 4th--but saw instant shift light--yep that was 2nd gear! In with clutch instantly and off gas. I don't think my RPM got excessive (shift light at 5800 for the supercharger).
This happened with the Hurst shifter. It really could use a stronger spring in the gate.
