Wow, that 1/8 mile time was really slow for a 500hp car. Mine ran a 8.43 with a R/T of .542 in an 1\8th with just CAI and Tune.

Edit, I actually found an old drag slip in my wallet of a 8.33 I ran, but I fouled.

Don't forget this is the "first" timeslip posted. I'm sure the very first timeslips of our GTs weren't even close to the bests we've seen now. My guess is in the next couple years, someone will manage very low 12's, but I don't think it will see 11's stock.

Looks like a pretty good first attempt to me, especially for bone stock. I bet 11's are easily within reach with a tune and some DRs. A pulley might get it into the low 11's. I don't know why everyone thinks the Shelby is maxed out in bone stock configuration, it's no doubt set up conservatively like any other mass produced vehicle. I bet there's a lot of power available with some simple/ cheap mod's.

I'm positive you can find all kinds of power by applying mods. I just don't see why after you pay $65,000 (40k for the car plus 25k dealer mark up)you should have to. I don't recall having to bone up the originals in order to slay a few vettes.

Exactly, those that feel for 5k they can equal a Shelby would be wrong, you might get to where this guy is now but for him it's much easier to go even faster and he's in a Shelby, we're not. If my car were running 12.0's I'd still bow to the Shelby, simply because of what it is and represents.

Track and altitude play huge parts. I can only roughly estimate how well my ET's are but in Calgary physically we are 3500' above sea level, not counting the weather. I've seen some drag racers posts from Calgary that have weather stations that have observed some 5500+ feet above sea level. I didn't see it on that page when I glanced quickly but do we know where that strip was?

Using a static physical elevation I got my Auto 06 with C&L/Diablo into the 13.8's @ 99 corrected. I plan on buying a station though because I know it's likely a lot faster than that at "real" elevation and I'd like to convert to the appropriate elevation for my records.

Those times are pretty good for being the first time he has taken the car to the track, the times are still 4 tenths better than what some magazines were getting!! Too bad he's going with a 150 shot of nitrous to make the car faster, should have gone with drag radials and gears first, but I'm really not an expert with that stuff so... hope he doesn't blow it up though! Red light doesn't affect 1/8th mile, also, look at that 1/8th mile MPH, then look at 1/4 mile MPH, that car has potential big time. His time slip speaks volumes on how poor the stock gearing is for a car that heavy, decent tires and a gear would wake that beast up big time.

Yeah before people really cut into this Shelby, I'd really like to see what it's capable with a little aftermarket help. By now, the s197's have a few established go-to mods (tuner/CAI, gear ratio) that everyone goes to for quick gains. After people start taking these Shelbys to the track and finding out the shortcomings and fixes, these things are going to be monsters. I'd love to start off with a 12.5 second 1/4 mile, stock. This guy is already talking a 150 shot of nitrous (!!). Plus, as 2GKT5 mentioned, this is the first actual timeslip most of us have seen, so we'll see how well those other new Shelby owners can do as time goes on.

Just remember this when you quote the price on the car as a comparison. It's msrp isn't 65k that's just what alot of dealers are managing to charge. It's a 42-46k car essentially. Don't penalize it when you compare it to more expensive, faster cars simply because some dealers (not all, but alot obviously) are gouging the first people to flock to the car.
