The official word from Ford is 9,000 a year for the US for 4-5 years... 350 will be exported per year... When production is over they will have produced around 40,000 units and all will be Shelby GT500...

Wait 6-9 months and MSRP will be the norm...

I see your point. 7000 units a year is fairly large for that car. However, if they stop production of the Shelby when the next design rolls out (2009-10) then you'll have three years of 7000 units and the price will remain above sticker. If they continue with the nameplate then the price will level out. I'm disappointed because for once I want to be able to look a GM'er in theeye and yell "Yatzee" when Ford rolls something stock off the line. Just once. BTW..if I hit the Lottery tomnight, I won't be able to post for the next few days because I'll be busy buying my 07 Shelby.

No one is looking at the fact that the reason they can't run into the 11's is a traction issue about back because of the tires/weight distribution, not becuase of a lack in power. MM&FF ran a 12.22 and the guy driving was pissed because he was pulling off like 2.1 or 2.2 60 foot times. The Shelby also have 3.31 rear-end and it's still not hooking up. Drag Radials would be my first buy with a car like that.

production might be low, and demand is high now.... but you will be able to get them at msrp.... comparing the GT500 to the Z06 is pointless, there is no comparison, and there shouldn't be.... the Z06 costs 50% more....

the GT500 does have a chance in drag race against the C6 though.... I've run against a few C6's, and they were trapping in the 114 MPH range..... it will be a drivers race each time.... will be close...

If you could buy one for 43K then it would be worth it. Fact is you can't. And since production will be kept low, you won;t ever be able to buy one at 43K. What irks me is, the original was built for one thing. To beat the vettes right out of the factory. This one can't. Theres no excuse for it. Again, if I could get one for 43K I wouldn't mind being 2 tenths of a second behind a 70K ZO6. I've owned nothing but Fords my entire life. However, at the current situation, I'd rather own the ZO6 before the Shelby. Lose some weight. Can the mark up, and beat the ZO6 out of the factory, and then we'll talk.
The Corvette is not just a "drag strip" performance car. I guess comparisons are being made due to the simularity in price. I know you guys might not like this comment but I'm wiping the sweat off my head that this car ended up being a mid 12 second car since most races are conducted light to light. I would still give the C6 the edge in top end and handling. I don't know why ppl are bashing this Shelby? You tell me were you can find an instant classic that runs mid 12's in the low $40K range right off the factory floor. YOU CANT. Yes I know the base Vette starts about $47K and it also runs mid 12's but a base Vette is too common to be a classic in the short term. I see alot of Mustang guy's turning their noses on this Shelby because it won't run 11's bone stock or the dealerships are raping ppl buying them. When are some of you Stangers going to realize that Ford/Shelby produced one hell of a fantastic Mustang !!!!! And this is coming from the GT500's rival............................................A C6 OWNER.
You da man, well said and I for one think the Shelby rocks!

if you seriously think the z06 is only 2 tenths faster than the gt500 in any way, you really need to read up a little more. The z06 is a mid-high elevens car stock. and thats what you get for an extra 30k over the gt500. I don't see why you guys are looking at it this way. Think about it like this. The corvette that competes with the gt500 is the C6, which doesnt have any rear seats, isnt as good looking, is not as rare/special as the gt500, and is a little more expensive i beleive. The gt500 is a far more practical car which is almost just as fast, and it is priced around the same. I think ford did a great job with the gt500.
