2007 Mustang GT
Okay, so today I bought a 2007 Mustang GT premium. It's a 5 speed, in mystic blue. It's a beauty. How would you guys go about breaking it in properly? How often would you change the oil in the beginning?

you're gonna get a variety of opinions on this. you can do a search to find several threads on the subject, but i took a sort of middle ground to the opinions here. drove sort of easy on it for the first 300 miles then did a little more 3-4k rpm runs when the engine was fully heated up. and now i'm at around 1600 miles. i've been waiting to get between 1500 and 2000 miles to do the first oil change (i'll probably take it in thurs) and then i'll do the next one at 5000 miles as per service guide.
but like i said, you'll get alot of different opinions on this so try a search and do what you think is best.

first of all, congratulations man, lets get some pics up! lol.
drive it very gently, no WOT or anything above 4 grand for the first 1500 miles. change the oil after 1500 miles, then 3000 miles, then 6000 miles, or something like that.

Breaking in: City type driving is best, you need to drive with as much variation in rpm as possible so the engine wears in properly. If you drive at constant RPM for a long periods of time during break in you'll end up with a lazy engine. After 1000 miles you can start to play. But it's all about personal preference. Just don’t push it past 60% for the first 1000 miles and you'll be safe.
With oil you can use the ford dealer intervals, or do it yourself. Just don't do driving 5000 miles with the first batch of oil since there will be lots of metal deposit in there generated by break in.

Thanks, that gives me some insight. It was the only 2007 on the lot, and it was a few dollars more than the 2006, but it has everything in it. I'll get some pictures up for you guys.

Definitely do NOT wait until 1500 miles for first oil change. During break-in, there will be metal particles in the oil that can clog the oil filter and reduce oil pressure. First change should be NO MORE than 500 miles, 250 even better.
I developed a fairly loud tapping noise in my engine within the first 50 miles - kinda like a valve tap. Read somewhere that reduced oil pressure could cause it. Changed the oil at 380 miles - boom, gone. No probs since. I didn't change it myself, so I didn't get to see the oil, but there are many people who have posted pictures of the metal flakes in their oil after the first change.
Agree with others on varying RPM - no criuse control, no long trips at constant speed for first 1000 miles.
You'll love the car - have fun!
