I know i've seen both sold seperately somewhere. the ball was like $39 if I remember correctly. A few people have said the tranny has built in stops to protect it from overshifts. To be honest i'm not even sure how you can overshift, are you slamming the shifter so hard that you break something in the transmission? Seems like you'd break the bolt holding the shift arm on first.

GTlust:
to answer your question... yes, in a way you can very easily overshift. think about it like this. say instead of shifting. your punching a poster on a wall... now try to hit it as fast as you can but without breaking your hand, or the wall. you may be able to do it but eventually you will over punch and break your hand or the drywall. but what if you had someone there to grab your arm and stop it exactly as it reachs the poster... now your hand is protected... the wall is protected... and the poster is protected... and your arm is strong to take the jolt. now image the wall is your gear. the poster your synchro ring. your hand is the shift fork. and your arm the shifter itself...

sorry if my weird analogy metaphor thingy is really confusing...

now even if the transmission has built in stop points... wouldnt you feel better if your shifter was banging off of them instead of internal transmission parts... i know my $280 shifter is alot cheaper to replace then my $1800 transmission.

I would feel better if I shifted that hard. Thanks for the analogy, it was helpful.

im pretty sure mustang tuning has them- was looking a getting a couple weeks ago.

one thing Ive noticed- likely because of the mount movement under load- it helps to be sure and hold some extra left pressure on the stick when the motor/tranny's squirmin around under the shifter.

Twister,
Thanks for the info, it's on my list of future mods!

The Hurst shifter was mostly based on economics. I hate this transmission. The 3650 in my 2001 is much smoother shifting, quieter, does not have synchro issues...
So the Hurst was a band-aid for some of the anger that I have towards this POS tranny. I usually do not get too aggressive at shifting (and no powershifting), but I totally jacked up my wrist when I did not get 3rd last month!

BTW, I took the cars out to the strip Thursday. First run ever on my 2005 vs. my kid's first race experience ever (in the 2001 that I'm giving him). Of course, I smoked him (with an 8.25 @ 86mph). Never did the 1/8th before. That 1/2 way through 3rd gear finish begs for some rearend work! Also, the shifter worked great...go figure!

I reacall seeing an '05 build up that removed the chasis mount of the shifter and rig'd up to the trans with a solid link

Anyone remember seeing that and have a link?

It makes no sense to me to decouple the shifter unless you completely decouple it - squishy rubber links just aren't going to cut it...

BigDave, it sounds like your having traction issues. my last and best run in the 1/8mile to date was a 8.23 at 83.84mph with my signature mods. my 60ft was a 1.795.. post your entire slip.

cekim, i know the retrofit kit for a t56 uses a remote mount that is completely bolted to the transmission. no body connection whatsoever. is that what your thinking about.

That's the one - custom or pre-whacked?
