At what HP you blow your engine apart with?

RE: At what HP you blow your engine apart with?
is it a question of HP or boost? If you could make parts to get past the mythical 450rwhp stat we always hear (when we're not hearing the 425) as a N/A car would you be as likely to blow the engine? Less likely? I've heard differing ideas and that the rwhp measure is a good guideline but dependant on the rig, not necessarily 100% accurate.

For mroe useful data - you could also poll what people have that have NOT blown the engine...
Given that engine blowage is rare for most and frequent for those that do, I would think you need both positve and negative data...
Also, specify RWHP (or did you already do that), boost if SC'd and RPM at which it blew...
Hmm, that is turning into a spread-sheet - but hey this is not a simple question...
p.s. oh and duration since mod to reach aformentioned HP.

i've read in some places that "400" pounds of torque is like the magic number. i dont know, this is getting all complicated now

Truth be told, other than random metalurgic faults, the RPMs are what take the forces over the edge, so peak torque is not so much the determiner of stress as "at what RPM was that torque seen"...
HP is, after all just a function of Torque vs RPM...
Boost adds another multiplier to the forces, so the RPM at time of failure gets a "DC offset" downward...

I'm running 15 psi boost with procharger supercharger on 91 octane. 481 RWHP and 450 TQ. I've put almost 3500 miles on the engine with the mods, stock block. so far engine is in once piece!

This thread is a waste of time because people have already run the stock bottom end for long periods of time with over 450hp at the wheels. All I have to say is if you want to play you better be prepared to play. Thats why I'm not running any FI until I can build the bottom end or just get a new block.

in all honesty, i would add more torque to all those numbers with the S/C before blowing it up...i have 335 lb-ft torque and i am all natural...+ a few bolt-ons
