1,833 Miles and First Problem...

RE: 1,833 Miles and First Problem...
Just spoke with the service manager. The computer is in the car, but they need to keep it over the weekend to "do more diagnostics" on it... what the hell is that? What diagnostics are there left to do once the box is in? They told me they wanted to make sure the "check charging system" light didn't come back on. Whatever. All it means to me is another two days added towards my 30 for a "Lemon Law" buyback... which would suck, because I like the car.
I swear, if there is so much as .10 of a mile extra on that car than when I brought it in, I'm going to explode. There is no need for them to drive it (AKA, "beat the hell out of a customer's car").
By the way, Orion, who is your dealer? I see you are in West LA.

I took the car back to the dealer, Galpin Ford, in the valley. They treated me much better than anywhere else when I was looking for the hard-to-get GT.
Most of my probs I blame on the Ford techs, who have their heads in the ground. They really don't have much experience with the processor (Spanish Oak?) and it is VERY complex. Just look up the list of codes- it's a mile long!

I've had the good fortune to own 1 Acura, 1, Honda, 2 Infiniti's and 2 Lexus's over the last few years and by far and away the best service is from Lexus, hands down. In fact their service is so good, even if I ever had the opportunity to own like, 5 cars at once, I would make sure one of them is a Lexus. Never a problem getting to that day. Never a problem getting a loaner that day. Never cared whether it was warranty work or not. Really, it's like night and day compared to the service i get from Ford, and my Ford dealer is quite good in fact.

Still in the dealership -- get this: They got the new computer on Thursday, installed it Friday, needed it for the weekend to do "diagnostics," now this morning they tell me that the new computer is also "bad" / "did not have the right codes", so they ordered up ANOTHER replacement, which they are supposedly installing as I type this. It gets better and better...

RE: 1,833 Miles and First Problem...
Are these new mustangs unreliable cars or something? Everytime I turn around somebody has a problem with theirs. I have a 2005 v6 since May of last year and so far I've had three problems with it. At 8,500 miles the check engine light came on and wouldn't go off. Had to have the entire computer replaced. At 12,000 miles the rear brakes started squealing. Had to have new pads AND new rotors replaced. Now at 24,000 miles I was driving down the interstate in 5th gear, switched lanes, floored the gas pedal to pass the car in front of me, the engine thumps really hard and the RPMS skyrocket and then slowly fall back down. I never switched gears or disengaged the clutch during this entire event. What in the hell was that? Ford had a decent track record on reliability these past few years but it seems they've fallen back to their old reputation with their newest models.

Spoke with the dealership again. The second computer was put in this morning, and it turns out that the SECOND COMPUTER IS ALSO BAD!! WTF!? What are the odds of that? So, they are ordering a THIRD computer, and the service manager is supposed to call me tomorrow to "talk things over." Clearly, they can't find the problem, or Ford quality is so bad, that two computers in a row are faulty.
This is amazing. My last three new cars were Dodges, and I've never had a problem with any of them (with this low a mileage and this complicated). I really like the 'Stang, and I hope they can fix the problem, but even if they do, would YOU trust the car?

Ford forgot to ENABLE the backlighting to the stereo on mine. At night I couldn't see the buttons (freq. display was on). Funny thing, I bought it with 14K miles on it. I guess the original driver didn't listen to the radio at night.
