Rear Blackout Help
Okay I decided to put my 3D Carbon Blackout panel on my self a couple of days ago and I didn't position it all that well. I need to lift up the Left side of it and position it down just a little bit, a couple of cm. Now It's held down on there with double sided tape, and I need to know how to get it off without hurting the piece itself. Here's an example of what it should look like correctly put on..LoL.

RE: Rear Blackout Help
I can tell you .... the longer you leave it on ... the harder it will be to remove .... initially the tape only has about 25% of it's hold force ... with 24 to 48 hours it goes up to 95%. if you want to get it off in one piece do it ASAP. You will have to ruin the tape to do it ... I would recommend getting some 50lb nylon fishing line and get it behind the panel ... then use a sawing motion to either strip the tape from the car or the tape from the panel ... this method works great getting emblems off of cars & motorcycles.
Good luck ....
Good luck ....

RE: Rear Blackout Help
Well, I'm not familiar with the thickness of the 3D carbon blackout. But, if it's sturdy, and you're going to ruin the 3M tape anyway, can you maybe get the nozzle of a can of WD40 behind the panel in the area of the tape? It works like goo gone, perhaps not quite as well, but with the little red squirt tube, perhaps you can get it to let go......
Don't know, may be worth a shot.....
(sorry for the pun)

RE: Rear Blackout Help
It shouldnt break but it say's it's an "economical alternative and Manufactured out of an exclusive thin "agragem" extruded plastic similar to that used in interior dash kits." To me that would mean it's pretty flimsly and maybe a little brittle. If I were you I wouldnt just go rip it off. I agree with dmhines, that is a good simple way to get it off without scratching your car or breaking the blackout piece.

RE: Rear Blackout Help
Use a hair dryer to heat the panel and the tape. The tape will lose it's holding power when heated. You should then be able to peel it off without damage. Notice I said peel....that's exactly right. The 3M tape is designed to hold hardest when constant pressure is applied across the piece, however when you apply steady pressure at a corner and use a peeling motion, it will begin to release.
