yesterday my wife was at a stoplight with her foot on the brake. the engine unexpectedly reved up and rear wheels started spining. the car went sidways so she shifted to park . the engine continued to overspeed for about 10 seconds then went back to normal idle speed . has anyone else had this problem? the car is a 06 GT with 2000 miles

is she sure that her foot wasnt accidently hitting the gas pedel, have you also checked to make sure the floormat did not get jammed under it?

No, she is positively sure that her foot was not accidently hitting the gas pedal and no the floor mats were not in the way of the gas pedal.

I had that same thing happen to me years ago while I was driving my Chevy Service van. I was at a red light and the engine started to rev all by itself. The worst part was, there was this hard core biker guy sitting right in front of me at the light. As the engine reved he slowly turned around to look at me. All I could do was hold my palms up and shrug my shoulders. Iy turned out to be a failed computer. It took the dealer a week to decide the PC was the trouble.

see if you can do a search here. This has happened to several posters already.
Be sure to take the care in to have it checked. Do you know if your wife was using cruise control?

take it to the dealer have them check out the ecu.
same thing happened to me while i had my 93 beamer.
engine would start reving at stop lights and I had to shut it down for a while. the engine would overheat constantly. I also had to replace the water pump bc of that.

Sounds like a drive by wire problem.
