BUT MY QUESTION TO EVERYONE IS FIRST OF ALL WHAT IS THE BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 3.73 & 3.90,4.10 GEARS IN MY MUSTANG? WHICH WOULD YOU RECOMMEND & WHY? You did not say if you have a man. or auto if you have a man. you will not see much difference between the 3:73 and the stocked 3:55 gears if you have a auto you will see a bigger difference between the 3:31'S. I have a auto and put the 4:10's on and boy it makes a difference I run about 2,900 Rpm'S at 80 mph. As far as 3:90 gears I don't think Ford racing makes them for our car. If you buy any thing but Ford racing gears you could be asking for a lot of noise issues.

Ric-
Are you using bigger tires or did you lower you Mustang?
Will Ford install these gears if I buy them elsewhere? Anyone know a reputable dealer for the gears?

I have the Eibach Sportline. A dealer will install your gears if you use a dealer that is performance oriented they might require you to buy the gears through them but I'm not sure of that but they will charge you out the a** for the install.

I'm seriously considering this modification. I have an 06 auto GT with the stock 3.31. Anyway, I plan on installing both the gears and an aluminum driveshaft at the same time.
I'm considering 3.55's or 3.73's. I can't decided!
My good friend at work tells me that the 3.55's will hardly make any difference at all (about 7% higher RPM's at a given speed vs. 12% higher RPM's for the 3.73's).
I'm leaning towards the 3.55's, less wear and tear on the engine and better gas mileage. I'm also hopping that the alumnium drive shaft makes up for the difference between the 3.55 gears and 3.73 gears. Any thoughts?
By the way, here is a handy calculator that computes engine RPM for various gears / tire sizes.

anyone that is lookin at gears and is worried about milage has to make a decision, 3.55's vs 3.31's is a complete waste of money
Street - manual 4.10 auto 3.73
street/track - manual 4.30 auto 4.10
these are pretty much written in stone as far as our cars go. stick with FRPP gears PERIOD

I'm more concerned about what running at 200 - 300 higher rpm is going to do to the engine after 10 years or so. I plan on having this car for a long time. Gas mileage isn't as big of a concern, since this is a second car. If gas gets really high, then I'll just drive it less.
Still acceleration is probably the hardest on the engine and gears should make it a lot easier for the engine to bring itself up to speed due to a greater mechanical advantage. Maybe I'll just go with the alumnium drive shaft right now, it's a simple bolt on. If that's not enough, then I'll start looking a gears.
