Hard Top for the convertible??

RE: Hard Top for the convertible??
I wrote to the company and they said they will have one available for the 2005 and up "soon" They said the price would be the same as the current price for the 99-04. They have a lot of options including various side window treatments and different types of headliners. It looked like a real quality piece.

Im confused... how does it work? Do you put your regular top down and put the hard top on over it?
So... even heavier car and no extra trunk room? It better be a LOT quieter, (as the regular top is pretty quiet already)...

The way the top will work is it's a stand-alone piece. you would put the top doen and place the hardtop over head. it'll "hook" into the rear vert pocket and latch into the front latches. When you don't use it, you hang it on their pushcart. It looks nice for the 04, and they said it'll look even better for the 05+. smoothline.com is where you can see the 99-04s.

no offense to anyone with the convertibles, they look great, but i feel that the fastaback look of the coupe gets destroyed by the convertible, and it would look a lot better with that j/w

Only way I would buy a vert is if it came with a hardtop. I just dont like the look of having a cloth top.. looks funky.. like a giant bat wing. I would love to have a vert, I live in Florida, but the way they look... its just better to get a sunroof at this point. Maybe if Ford develops a nice hard top stang later on.. I might consider it.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but most convertibles are designed to look good (and allow the occupants to look good, if possible) with the top down. Top up is usually a compromise, but IMO the mustang ragtop is a heckuva lot better looking than the 350 ragtop or even the BMX 6 series.
Convertibles themselves are a compromise; you lose structural integrity, interior and storage space, have more noise.....but I wouldn't have it any other way.
The hardtops though are expensive and bulky add-ons that usually rattle, are a bitch to put on and take off, and take up a lot of room to store.
I'll keep my vinyl ragtop, live with the downsides, and be quite happy about it.
