Default OR H sound issue

I have a pypes off road H pipe with MAC axle back exhaust.
the issue I am having is right at 2500 RPMs it produces a very loud almost metal on metal sound. The guy at my local shop said it was because the MAC axle back is a chambered muffler. He then went on to say that if I went with a different type of muffler like magnaflow that it would bring that noise down a good bit because the magnaflow is an 'S' shaped muffler with packing. I also have heard from another very reputable source that the pypes axle back are also an 'S' shaped muffler with packing.

Does this make sense? if this is true I could save a good bit of coin going with the pypes compared to magnaflow. Please give me your input, I know several people on this forum have similar setups so thanks in advance for your help.

Also, just to note it isn't the volume of the exhaust note that is bothering me, only the strange metalic sound at 2500 rpms. .... so please don't flame me for complaining about the sound when going with an off road pipe.

double check and make sure ur hangers arent almost touching the metal around the rubber hangers. If they are close, torque could be flexing the exhaust system against the bracket. My off road x came in contact on occasion, so I took a hammer to it........fixed it right up.

Good Luck!

I have the some exact set up with the Pypes off road H but with Flowmaster mufflers and the exact same issue. I am thinking about putiing some high flow cats back on to eliminate the problem. I don't want to put an even louder straight through muffler on ther. I don't care for that loud raspy sound. The setup sounds great except right at 2500 RPM's.

Thanks for the info. What exactly is a resonator and how do you put it in etc...
are they specific to a certain type of muffler or are they universal? (link to product?)

hogpowr:
did the metal come in contact at a certain rpm or just on different occasions?

Thanks for everyone's input.

Retighten everything and get rid of the slowmasters.
