I was using 5w-20 and then one of the techs at the dealership told me to go with 5w-30 because it runs better in our cars. 5W-20 is a little lighter and it will get to all the little nooks and crannys faster than 5W-30. So unless you like to turn the key and then floor it on a cold engine, I don't see any issue with running 5W-30 in your cars.

IF you like synthetic oil, then you're probably stuck running with 5W-30...I don't know of a synth oil that is 5w-20

It's a little harder to find, but all the major brands make a 5-20 full synth. I couldn't find Mobile1, althought i know they make it, but I found Castrol with no trouble. Of course if you are using AMSoil or Royal Purple, you already know how to hook up.

Todays oils are a lot tougher than they used to be. I don't have any problem using 5W20 as specified by Ford. I use Mobil 1 and don't have any trouble finding it. 5W20 flows better, therefore it lubricates quicker at start up where most wear occurs, and it also carrys heat away better.

Again, if you're using synthetic and changing your oil every 3-5,000 miles, and don't drive every day in the Arizona desert, I'm not sure what 5-30 is buying you. Sure, it's probably is fine, go and use it, but what's the point?

I wouldn't doubt it the story above it true. I don't think people realize how close Ford is to shutting down shop...with all the foregin car companies blowing them out of the water they would save a buck any way they can....I am going to research this topic.

Andrew, the internet is a great place. You can find whatever you want to support an argument no matter how ridiculous it might be. Just use the goddamn 5-30 and shut the hell up. Jeez!

I noticed you got alot of suggestions for 0-30 and 5-50 too. Now what are you going to do?

I run 5w20 Mobile 1 Synthetic. I get it at Walmart for like $36 for 6 quarts. Roughly $6 a quart. I think I might switch to Royal Purple, which is pretty much the same price. (Actually cheaper if you go onto a site like SummitRacing.com)

+1, there will always be people that are old school and think old school, there will always be people that are biased one way or another. And then there will always be people that think no matter what, they are always right! Best thing you can do is think logically, and then go with your heart.

By the way, if a ford service department is telling you to put in something different, i would get it in writting, from what i understand if you dont use the 5w20 and and something happens to your engine, well they can refuse warrenty work.
