Default Shaker 500 system Vs. Stock

I am thinking about getting an 07 GT and I was wondering if it is worth getting the Shaker 500 system or just going with the stock system it comes with? Has anyone listened to both? Is there a considerable difference in sound? Any help would be appreciated.

Although I'm getting the Shaker 500 with mine, I drove a V6 convertible with the Shaker 500 and wasn't all that impressed. To be perfectly honest, it didn't seem any more powerfull than the 200Watt monsoon system. But the top was down, so its probably completely different with the top up.

I thought about getting the Shaker 1000, at an extra $1000, and I'd lose a ton of trunk space, I decided against it.

If you're big into car audio, I'd say get the stock system and then upgrade it yourself.

+1, I am a audio junky, and i find the stock 500 shaker good, but not as clear as you can get w ith a good aftermarket amp and head unit and upgraded speakers and subs.

Also depends on music, i find for rock and metal the shaker is good and you could probaly be happy, however if you are a rap, R&B etc.. i think you will be disappointed by it.

When I first turned on the Shaker 500 in my '07, I wasn't exactly blown away. However, after fine tuning it to suit my listening preferences, I'm now very pleased with the way it sounds.

I listen to mostly harder rock and such myself. I used to work and sell electronics for about 7 years, and JBL now makes the stock Ford door speakers. They are actually pretty decent for mids and highs, but of course not the best in the world. If you really would like a good sound system, get a new head unit, that will bring the door speakers to life, and also a new amp and sub(s). I have a single 12 and it works great for what I listen to.

But have you seen the way an aftermarket head unit looks in the dash? A little ghetto to me....on my last GT('05) it came with the 500. I just upgraded all the stock speakers and added an amp and single sub(12")...spent less than a G.....it sounded ten times better than a Shaker 1000 for less $ On my '06 GT I'm gonna replace the speakers(better than what I put in '05) and add two amps and a bass tube(10"), I need all the trunk space I can save. Just my $.02

I love it, but some perspective: I'm an old guy, I haven't really listened to music in 10 years, mostly talk radio, news and sports, and this is the first vehicle I've ever had that actually had a CD player. (Yes, I used to "burn" TDK cassette tapes...) I'm sure aftermarket equipment is a magnitude better, but the S500 is at least 15.73x better than anything I've ever had before. It's impressive enough that I'm digging out my old CDs and listening to them again! You guys should have been around for 8-tracks and Jensen speakers...
