My first scratch!! I'm paralyzed....

RE: My first scratch!! I'm paralyzed....
I've had good results in the past with touch up paint --> 1300 wet sand --> polishing compound --> wax
With the paint, sit and watch TV and shake the thing for 15 minutes - half the reason it's so goopy is that it's been sitting for so long. Apply sucessive coats to build up thickness - and yes, sometimes the brushes suck - toothpick, cardboard matchstick, or model brush. Let paint set up for at least a week.
When sanding, slow and steady, keep it wet and don't let the sandpaper get loaded up.
Then follow up with hand polish.. can take a while..

I knew it was going to happen but I haven't even plated the car yet!!
Pulling into my garage I forgot how much that bumper sticks out under the hood. I hit some metal shelving that shouldn't have been there in the first place...
It's not too bad. I'm posting some pics.
Would you guys get it fixed? How much do you think it would cost, ballpark??

RE: My first scratch!! I'm paralyzed....
I took my car for it's first oil change at the dealer. Of course I had to leave it overnight, because I work so many hours. God forbid my husband take it.... Anyways, I picked it up the next day and they parked it in the parking lot and of course some idiot opened their door up on it. I took it to another dealer and they charged me $125.00 to get it fixed, made them do it twice but it looks good now. I avoid hitting anything in the garage by putting bricks on the floor, roll right up to them and they let me know how far to go. When I had my Jeep, my husband hung a little plastic ball from the ceiling and when my windshield hit that I knew I was good! Hope those ideas help some.

RE: My first scratch!! I'm paralyzed....
I've already had two 'hit and runs' which did some mild damage (do people back out/pull into parking spots blindfolded or what?). Got both taken care of at the same time, but the bumper has never quite lined up right since (too much gap on the passenger side). Other than that I've come to accept daily drivers are going to end up with nicks. I plan on keeping mine indefinitely, so I know it will get some fresh paint and clear someday (and maybe some ghost flames .
Sometimes I think my car is a magnet for road rocks though.
