Can stock tranny hold out??

RE: Can stock tranny hold out??
WOW! Lots of incorrect info here, a couple notes: Tremec doesn't make auto transmissions and the T56 doesn't come in the GT500. Okay now back to your regularly scheduled bickering amongst those that don't know what they are talking about.

envious ppl always say" you cant do this" "u cand get that"... my reply?.... Money makes the world go round!!! and yes i understand, i never said i was going to run 10's with just 450hp... but the easiest and fastest way to do that is a power adder... and by the way.. brenspeed has a 05 gt in the 10's with minor bolt on and a 125 shot, so if i really wanted to i could, i would just have to have my mustang go on a diet.

Yes the 5R55S can handle the power a s/c or turbo makes it may not hold up. By the way Ford names their transmissions with a standard naming scheme now. Now how much hp/tq a trans can hold is up in the air. There are a handful of cars running in the 10s with stock autos.
5R55S
5 - Forward gears
R - Transmission has reverse
55 - Torque capacity of the trans muliply by 10 so 55=550 ft-lbs (per Ford)
S - Standard gear ratio
4R70W
4 - Forward Gears
R - Reverse
70 - 700 ft-lb capacity
W - Wide ratio gear set.

RE: Can stock tranny hold out??
I am pushing 485 at the rear wheel and about 570 to the flywheel. So far so good. But how long it will last I dont know. There is another guy on here running a similar setup to mine and he smoked his rear differential at the track but I think his tranny is still holding true. My personal opinion on this issue is that it is the trq you have to be worried about (not the HP) from the impact of the shift. Because a trq converter actually multiplies the trq impact of the shift by a considerable amount. I personally would not change my trq converter to a higher stall rating along with supercharging because you will be well into the boost at that point meaning an even harder impact. But if you are ready to buy a new tranny within a month or so go for it.

ok, thanks guys.... i think im just gonna add bolt ons get 3.73's... forget running in the 10's.... i want to be able to drive my stang all the time, and i dont want the headaches... so far im just gonna keep adding bolt ons, they day i get smoked by an import, then im gonna boost, or spray.. my stang is pretty quick anyway.

RE: Can stock tranny hold out??
The cost of going 10s in reguards to drivabilty and finacally has made some people wish they had stuck with a nice streetable 450-500 hp car running 11s as opposesd to running a high 9, low 10 sec car thats always broke needs race gas and can't get enough traction on the street to beat a honda. Low 11s high 10s seems about the fine line for a daily driver. But then again different people have different meanings of daily driver.
