parking brake handle

Does anyone else get annoyed with the parking brake handle jetting out into the drivers side? Are there any replacements that would make the handle sit flush against the center consol? Lately it has started to really bug the hell out of me.

I did at first and was kinda confused why they switched sides on us like that, but it doesnt really bother me now.. Im thinking it would be more work than it was worth to try and replace it.. only thing I really have a problem with now is when I release it, the handle takes the rubber things and pulls them down into the hole a bit and it looks retarded so I have to fix it with my finger everytime I get in the car.
