Default GT500 Brake Install

Well I installed the GT500 brakes and finally had a chance to post some pics... This is a great upgrade, the stock brakes where not up to the task of slowing down the 550 HP car I am driving now... Here are a few pics than I will post some feedback on the install and performance difference...

I also installed the Steeda brake lines and let me tell you the difference now compared to stock is huge... These brakes are a must for any mustang that has more HP than stock or wants to have great braking performance... The stock brakes were barely adequate after all my other mods...

Looks good. Hopefully I will figure out my wheel clearance and get mine bolted up soon.

But in normal street driving, does the car have a nicer pedal feel. Hopefully a little more porsche brembo like or BMW??

Yes, much nicer... More precise and firm, great initial bite as well and much more progressive and smoother than the stock brakes...

I am sure part of the great feel is also the lines but the brakes are definitly an awesome upgrade...

Cool. I just wish the factory 18" bullitt wheels didnt need a 1" spacer. Not that a 1" spacer is a terrible thing, porsche used 1.5" spacers on widebody 911's from the factory on the 993 I think. But I just dont know if a spacer it the right solution.

Those Wedssport wheels you are are pretty nice. Do you happen to know what offsets you are running.

And now I have to get some wheels for snow tires within the next month which also complicates things.

I wonder what the offset is on the factory gt500 wheels.

There are very good spacers out there just do a search on the net, and make sure they are hub centric... The ones I am running are just 1/4 inch machined aluminum, my front wheels are 18 x 8.5 and a 50 offset if I remember correctly... If they were 9" with the same offset they would have cleared or if they were 43-45mm offset...

The offset is not the only issue, it is also the way the spokes on the wheel are designed, my Wedssport wheels have very offset spokes to clear big brakes... The GT500 wheels are 18 x 9" and their spokes are very offset...

By the way, the GT500 factory Brembo brakes come out 10-15mm more than the Brembo aftermarket kit but do not require adapter plates...

The stock rotors are much smaller, you need to get the following...

1) Brembo calipers
2) Front 14" Brembo rotors
3) Front Brembo pads / Rear brake pads
4) Front dust shields (They come in a pair...)
5) Front caliper pad installation kit (This includes the pins and spring clip that hold the pads in place...)
