Painted Calipers
 

For those of you that have painted calipers, did you paint them yourself? If so, how long did it take and how hard was it to do. I'm mechanically challenged and don't want to have to take them off to paint them myself. Any help?

I just did mine a few days ago. They take a couple hours. Undo the bolts to the calipers and take out the brake pads....masking everything is a bigger pain than just unhooking the calipers(you don't take them off the brake line though). Follow the instructions.....pretty self explanatory.

My understanding is that once the caliper coating is mixed you don't have much working time. How do you folks that have painted calipers do all of them at the same time? Put all four corners on jack stands and pull all the wheels at the same time?

I used the G2 Paint System. This is an excellent paint for the calipers and as was mentioned you mix the hardener into the paint just prior to painting. I believe you have 3 – 4 hours to use it. It comes with brake cleaner etc. so really everything you need including a paint brush.

I put my car up on jacks on all 4 corners and removed the wheels. I wiped down my calipers since they were not dirty where they needed more then wiping.

If you’re good or decent with a paint brush you do not need to remove the calipers or mask anything. I didn’t remove mine nor mask them off and they came out perfect. However if you wanted you could take some time and mask them with tape and use an exacto (sp?) knife (razor) and mask up what you don’t want painted.

Since its paint that goes on with a brush you don’t have to worry about over spray. If you get the kit I have a link for above just following the directions and it will come out fine. Since it does take time to dry it is best to plan on not using the car for a good 24 hours after painting the calipers.

While the calipers were drying I washed and then put 3 coats of Zaino on all the wheels… :D

I did mine using the Duplicolor kit at Autozone.

The paint came in a can and you didn't need to mix any hardener or anything.

Kit came with brake cleaner, paint, brush, stir stick and instructions.

I simply put the car up on jack stands, removed all 4 wheels.

Cleaned the calipers, masked off the really easy stuff and painted away.

Total time maybe 2-3 hrs and they look great.

I did mine with dupli-color hiheat spray paint and just taped everything off really good. It was cheaper than the kit and I don't have brush marks. If you got any questions about how I did it PM me.

I did mine with the Duplicolor enigine enamel. I used Ford Red, then after it was dry, I topped it with high heat clear coat. I put my car on the lift, took off all four tires, masked off everything, even parts of my fenders, and cleaned the calipers with brake cleaner, then sprayed about 4-5 coats of red, letting each coat dry for about 5 min. After the last coat dried for 5 min., I sprayed the clear(about 3 coats) It didnt take long at all, and was a very easy job. I say you do it, its not hard at all.

I did the duplicolor kit from wally world.....It is enough for maybe 4 cars......very easy, no dissassembly required(just remove wheels).
The calipers are crinkle surfaced so there are no noticiable brush strokes....its a great kit/mod.
