I wont join in the bashing over there, but why defend it??

Stock, in many ways, it is an underachiever. No offense to anyone that owns one, to each his own.

Decent car, but for the money the dealers are charging, it isnt up to snuff with cars in that price range.

In reality, setting looks aside (I saw it in person last week and somehow felt that it looked cheaper than a decked out GT) which is purly personal opinion. If you want to make a hotter version of a already hot car, you dont start out by adding 500-550 lbs to a car after you already removed the spare. And the last thing you want to do is put the weight all in the nose. Usually, when a car company makes a hotter car, the goal is to keep the weight in check while adding HP and trying to even improve weight distribution if possible.

So I wouldent say it is a bad car, but just executed wrong for my taste and the taste of many sports car fans. But for a musclecar, it may be spot on. But musclecars never ran well against porsches and vettes on a roadcourse. I personally thought ford was beyond that stigma.

Nothing really to defend from what I can see. Its not capable of beating those cars on that type of track....sad but true. Though I would think it could do a bit better than it did.

I can take 350Zs all day long on the strip and the closed track so other than me somehow having an additional $75k lying around its not going to take the place of my GT.

Something that does not seem to jive on that forum post I think is that VIR is 3.2 miles not 4.2...the top speed numbers seem to work out to a 4 mile track but the et.s seem low...did they add another mile somewhere that has more straights?

A 3:00 e.t. on a 4.2 mile course is something to brag about...my best ET on a technical 3.1 mile course is 2:40 and I thought that was pretty good.

if i may make a comment here guys...im sure that the members here wouldnt like it if the vette guys came here to argue, and they surely dont either. while its one thing to join and defend the GT500, its another to start a "board war".

yeh the stock vette is faster than it/with 400 horse. It also is fiberglass. I also dont see how the 0-60 is 4.9 while the standard gt w/ 200 horse less is 5.1. just boggles my mind. For 45 that cars good, but in hell should anyone pay 75 for it.

Looks like many of the Vett guys are doing a fine job at defending the GT500...

oh..i misunderstood your post..you do present a fine point, but straight line acceleration isnt everything...take, for instance, the srt-10 ram trucks. due to the suspension setup, they dont turn out blazing stock 1/4 times, but it is more capable overall, then any other sport truck...
