aluminum conducts heat much better than plastic. BUT there is enough air flow through the intake and through the engine bay i wouldnt think the C&L will have any significant problems or HP losses caused by high intake temps.

The concern I would have is in stop and go traffic on a hot day. Not much air movement, idling, heating up, etc. Or, on a long trip to Vegas thru the desert (110 degrees + for 3.5 hours from LA.). I would think that if the aluminum got heat soaked, would that start to cause problems? Doesn't plastic dissapate the heat a little better?

I love the look of the C & L, but a question that pops up in my mind is, isn't the underhood heat going to soak that metal intake tube? Raise the temperature of the intake charge? Which is the better heat insulating material, aluminum or plastic? Wouldn't a plastic tube be a better insulator against heat on long drives, traffic, etc., where heat is a problem?

if your sitting in traffic then you have no need to worry about power, and its not going to get hot enough to do any damage to your engine.
as for going to vegas, once again, 110 degrees really isnt that hot compared to your engine temps, you will loose power but i would find it highly unlikely that it would cause any damage to the engine. remember, you are still going to be running only about 300hp to the wheels, theres guys putting down 450+ @ 9lbs on a turbo setup and all of the intake piping is alluminum.
plastic doesnt absorb and conduct heat like aluminum, its not a matter of dissapation.
i seriously wouldnt worry about engine damage, only loosing some power under high temp scenarios
