Shaker 500 and mp3 question...

Hey all,

I am in the processes of ripping my CDs to mp3s. I am trying to figure out how best to name the files so that the information comes up when you press the Text button....It gets the mp3 title, but it doesn't fill in the artist and album information...

Does anyone have any idea how to name, or structure the directories, to get the Shaker to figure that information out????

Mine only shows so many characters. The problem is that the Shaker does not scroll.
That would solve the problem.

When the song starts playing you see the filename. When pressing the text button, the song/artist/album info you see comes from the ID3 tags not from the filename. Most ripping programs will connect to a database on the internet and fill in the tags for you. If you want to view/edit the tags after ripping, Mp3tag is a great tool.

filename is just that. You need to edit the ID3 Tags itself. I use Tag & Rename. Most of the info I don't even bother to fill in. I just use the song.artist,album. It took me awhile to understand this stuff myself. I was like," What the hell is going on?" But now it's easy.

I never ripped a cd before. I download the mp3's and then I put them into a directory. Then I edit them and burn them.

There are three differnt versions of ID3tags, the shaker 500 can only read id3 V1 tags.

I wrote an article on how to RIP CDs, but unfrotunately my server is down.

The link is http://ww.cherod.com/mustang/HowTo/ShakerMP3.htm

Hopefully it will be back up soon.

So the ID3 tags are getting set. I viewed them with the Mp3tag software and Windows recognizes them. So I guess they are the wrong version???????

You have to make sure they are saved as ID3 V1 tags before you burn them.

I saved the article I wrote as a pdf but I can't figure out how to attach it to this post. Any ideas?

Good point about the ID3 V1 tags. Factory electronics are so far behind current technology most software programs don’t even bother with the V1 tags anymore.

To make MP3Tag write V1 tags go to "Tools: Options: Tags: Mpeg" and check the "ID3v1" box in the "Write" area.

Before burning them to disk, download Winamp, put them all in a playlist. You can right click them to get at the ID tags. If ID v3 is filled in, you can click a button to autofill the ID v1 for you and save it. Once you do them all, burn the cd.
