I would guess the lower speed would also account for better mpg as well. Still nice

I have been trying to tell people for quite a while that the more HP I get out of mine the better the gas mileage is and everyone says I am full of crap. Hell, I drove to Kansas City, AC on, cruise set to 85, and was getting 27mpg the entire trip.

The computer may be fooling you.
Are you using the computer or are you resetting the trip odometer each time and then when filling up dividing the miles by the number of gallons you've put in?
That's the only way we'll believe you!!! Let us know!

There are a few reasons for this. To begin with, these engines have a torque peak at a relativiely high RPM. The torque peak is the most efficient RPM. As the cruise RPM rises nearer the torque peak RPM, the efficiency increases.

Additionally with a lower gear (higher numerically) you get through the gears into the top gear quicker.

Also, your particular driving style will be a big determining factor as to which gears will give you the best fuel economy.

It is a common myth that in every case, taller gears mean more fuel economy. In some cases that's true and in other cases it is not true.

Don't believe the computer but calculate your mpg...

I agree about calculating your own mpg. However, when I went to the pump and did the math, I learned that the computer is scary accurate. It said 13.4 gallons used, and it took 13.4 gallons to fill it up. Likewise with the mpg: exact to the decimal point.

BTW, I'm bone stock and drive a lot of city. I'm getting about 18 mpg.

I get about 23 mpg at 80 mph.

Ok, let me try putting it in to simpler terms. I drove from Dallas to Wichita and put in 13 1/2 gallons. Then from Wichita to Gardner Kansas, put in maybe 6 1/2 gallons.
