With the MP3 player, and the ability to put 100-130 songs per Cd, and 6 Cds at a time thats 700 songs or better. I've never owned an Ipod but I don't understand the need for one with MP3CD's
that's a funny question... lets do some math... an mp3cd is about 700mb which holds about 100 7mb 320kbps mp3s. My ipod is 30gigs or roughly 30,000mb which can hold about 4200 7mb 320kbps mp3s - that would be equivalent to your 42 cds to match my 1 ipod. i would prefer that over having to fumble with cds.
A 700MB CD can hold roughly 5-12 hours of MP3 songs depending on the compression ratio. A typical 30 minute commute will only allow you to listen to a finite number of songs. Now factor in the number of crappy songs, and the number of good songs you own/have and the MP3 CD isn't a terrible solution. I can't even fill an entire CD with MP3s that I like. The Shaker 500/1000 has an integrated 6 disc changer, so you can get about 35-84 hours worth of MP3 songs total.

yes true u can but it is a bitch trying to find the one song u are trying to listen to on a mp3 cd.. you have to find the right folder and song while you should be focusing on the road..i made 2 mp3cds and ive already thrown em out

If you're tinking like that, then why would you even need more than 1 cd ever? because you'd get tired of 1 cd. Also, with an ipod, i don't have to waste time burning or throwning away cds when i feel like changing it up. New music comes out everyday, songs you forgot about years ago need to be burnt on you cd, miscellaneous data files need to be carried around with you... it's much easier to do that with an ipod or various mp3 players than to have to burn a new cd everytime.
